WHAT IS AN EXPLORATORY ESSAY ?
An exploratory essay is a type of writing that investigates a topic or idea from multiple angles and perspectives. It is designed to explore a subject in depth, without necessarily trying to reach a conclusion or take a particular stance on the issue. The purpose of an exploratory essay is to gather information, consider different viewpoints, and gain a deeper understanding of the topic at hand.
Exploratory essays differ from traditional argumentative or persuasive essays, which are focused on making a specific point or convincing the reader to take a particular action. Instead, exploratory essays aim to gather and present information in an unbiased manner, allowing the reader to draw their own conclusions based on the evidence provided.
Overall, an exploratory essay is a type of writing that allows you to delve deeply into a topic, gather and evaluate evidence, and consider different viewpoints. It is a useful tool for gaining a more comprehensive understanding of a complex or controversial issue.
ASSIGNMENT PROMPT
In this project we were required to choose a topic that links to something about killing as our class revolves around killer stories. We were given a prompt by Professor Metenko in which he helped guide us through this new technique of writing. we were given many resources such as sample essays from previous students which were annotated as well. We were given a very important website that helped us find resources and information. It was called CCNY libraries, in this website we are given so many resources that we can use as database and citations for further researching on our topic.
EXLORATORY ESSAY
One of the main hardships I faced was finding credible and reliable sources on both sides of the argument. It seemed that every article I found had a clear bias, and it was difficult to determine which sources were trustworthy. This made it difficult for me to present a balanced exploration of the issue.
Another obstacle was trying to keep my own personal opinions out of the essay. As someone who has strong feelings about overdosing and drug abuse, it was difficult for me to remain neutral and present both sides of the argument objectively. I had to work hard to keep my own biases in check and focus on presenting the facts and different viewpoints as objectively as possible.
Despite these challenges, I am proud of the essay I ultimately produced. I learned a lot about the complexities of the overuse of over-the-counter drugs and was able to present a balanced exploration of the issue. I hope in the future i can use this paper as a reference of my old writing and perhaps create a much better exploratory essay.
